Integrated design process

Product or system integrated design is an approach that brings together different actors across the life cycle, providing new perspectives early in the design process.

The integrated design process (IDP) is increasingly used in the building design and construction sectors because it brings immediate value to the process. Integrated design facilitates information sharing early, optimizing project management and product quality. The process also helps minimize unforeseen costs and issues later in the process.

The IDP process requires six major principles:

  1. Diverse team collaboration
  2. Well-defined scope, vision, goals and objectives
  3. Open communication
  4. Innovation and idea synthesis
  5. Systematic decision-making
  6. Iterative process with feedback loops
